I’m not going to lie, I was expecting to get some backlash after my tweet about how black quarterbacks don’t get much love in the NFL. But I didn’t anticipate getting replies from teammates and coaches. In fact, I got replies from three Chiefs players—Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Sammy Watkins. And they were all supportive and thankful. We’re all human. Everyone makes mistakes. So I appreciate them taking the time out of their day to reach out to me and say they understand where I’m coming from.My point wasn’t really to compare myself to Kaepernick. I just wanted to point out that he’s being criticized for kneeling at games, yet no one ever talks about the fact that Colin Kaepernick isn’t even allowed to play football anymore. I think if anyone deserves a second chance, it’s him.
No

matter what happens, I’ll always be grateful to the Chiefs organization. Their faith in me means everything to me.As for my critics who want to take shots at Kaepernick, that’s fine. He’s earned his right to do whatever he wants. It’s only fair that people have free speech. That doesn’t mean I agree with what he did, though. I know everyone says they want to see good things happen for black athletes. But we’ve still got a long way to go before equality is achieved.
