Bill Russell was born William Melvin Russell Jr. on January 13th, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts. He played basketball professionally for over 40 years and won 10 championships with the Boston Celtics. Russell’s career spanned from 1955-1980. His number 6 jersey was retired by the Celtics in 1984. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990. In 1993 he was named to the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History list.
